  I think Google needs to get out a map of the State of Iowa in this case. Iowa Highway 76 does NOT go through the town of McGregor. Rather, old U.S. Hwy. 18 (now known as Business 18) goes through McGregor and along the Mississippi River into the town of Marquette, Iowa. Iowa Hwy. 76 begins at the north end of Marquette, Iowa, along the Mississippi and goes north to Waukon, Iowa, where it ends when it meets Iowa Hwy. 9. The route you have Ia. 76 taking through McGregor is US Business 18. Only in later years (1990 and beyond) was a bypass of old Hwy. 18 made so that people could cross the bridge into Prairie du Chien, WI, w/o being forced to wind through McGregor and Marquette (especially when the Mississippi River floods).
